Weak tea for the aged
Modern scientific researches show that tea is health-giving by building up resistance and curing the osteoporosis, especially the tieguanyin tea has the lipid-lowering and anticancer effects. However, experts warn the aged that drink tea with caution, especially the strong tea.
Firstly, caffeine in tie guan yin tea has an irritating effect on organism, which is more obvious to the aged. Along with the increase of age, man’s cardiac function gradually decreases so the heart’s ability to bear is unlike that before. Chronically drinking the strong tea will bring heart added burden, which may lead to tachycardia and arrhythmia and even induce or aggravate kinds of heart disease.
Secondly, the excitation of tieguanyin tea transmitting to human tissues and organs will induce muscular tension and vasoconstriction, which may lead to the elevation of blood pressure. The aged themselves are easier to suffer the disease like angiosclerosis and high blood pressure, therefore, drinking tea unduly may cause critical symptoms such as stroke.
Thirdly, drinking tieguanyin tea may influence old people’s sleeping. As the saying that people are sleepy in their first thirty years but sleepless in the later thirty years. Stepped in the period of aging, people’s sleeping decreases and the sleep quality declines, at the same time, the excitation of tea will last longer. To the aged, even drink tieguanyin tea at the afternoon, may suffer insomnia at night, which will shorten the rest time that is original not enough. People will surely feel listless on the next day, if they refresh themselves by drinking tea, they would be stuck with a vicious circle.
Fourthly, in old age, people’s digestive function has declined itself while the large amount of tannic acid absorbed by drinking tie guan yin tea may make protein to form indigestible precipitate. That will influence the absorptivity of vitamins and trace elements, which is easier to cause malnutrition and even aggravate the clinical symptoms of chronic constipation in the aged.
Therefore, the aged should comply with the principle of “drink earthly, drink less, drink weak” when drinking tieguanyin tea.
