Manchester-Nashua, NH – Construction is complete on the new 580-student Idlehurst Elementary School in Somersworth, New Hampshire, and is set to open as scheduled. The $19.9 million school was designed by architecture and engineering firm, Harriman.
The new $19.9 million Idlehurst Elementary School in Somersworth, NH is being referred to as the “greenest” school in the state. Designed by Harriman, the school has many energy-saving features including building orientation to maximize solar heat gain and daylighting; sunshades to control direct sunlight into spaces, reducing cooling costs; radiant floor heating in 100% of classrooms; and on-demand ventilation providing ventilation to occupied spaces only to name a few.
The school was designed to meet the Northeast CHPS program. According to the NH Department of Education’s Ed Murdough, the school is the “greenest” in the state. The district received $75,000 from Public Service of NH.
