How to Earn Money from Toner Cartridges

Printing shops and desktop publishing houses are among the top users of black and white and colored toners because they use their laser printers a lot. Add to this are those homes that have laser printers as well and the result are heaps of empty toner cartridges that could potentially end up in a plastic landfill.

But DFW printers should be thankful that now, they have an alternative. They will not only get rid of the toner cartridges that are piling up in the supplies room; they will also prevent them from adding up numbers in the landfill.

If you are operating a commercial printing shop or you are just an individual with one unit of laser printer, it is easy to just get rid of these empty toner cartridges by dumping them in the trash, right? But do you know that there is a monetary incentive for those who dispose of used toner cartridges properly?

Yes, you read it right. There are local office supply stores in the Dallas area that offer some rebate when you give back empty cartridges to them. There is just a limit to how many you can submit for a month because they also keep a record, but their maximum limit is quite high, so for sure, you could not use it up.

Now, here is what you can do to make extra money.

If you are an employee at a print shop, the owners do not usually mind the trash. But so that to make things smooth, make arrangements with the owner and ask him if you could take home the empty toner cartridges that are just usually put in the trash. Most likely the owner will ask about your interest in it so just be honest about it. Tell him that you are collecting them so that when there are already several of them, you can bring them over to those toner recycling centers and get a rebate from them. More often than not, your boss would just be happy to oblige you. Not only are you responsible but also resourceful. And do not bring the toners one by one to the supply store. Bring them home and save them up until you have collected maybe at least 10 units before exchanging them at the supplies store.

If you are just an individual with a laser printer, ask around your neighbors if they are also using laser printers and what they are doing with their empty cartridges. If they tell you that they just throw them away, ask to collect them. Tell them that you are trying to help the environment by keeping these cartridges away from the landfill and so that you could also earn some extra bucks.

Bringing the cartridge one by one could be a hassle and the money that you get will not even be enough to cover the fuel spent. So that is why you should do two things. Collect them first from DFW printers or from your neighbors before bringing them for exchange at the office supply depot. Then do this only when you also have errands in the area. Do not go there for this purpose only. If you collect at least 10 empty toners, then you should be able to exchange anywhere from $20 to $30 for them, depending on where you go. If you an employee of commercial printers, you could make some extra cash from this.
