Useful coping strategies for stress
It seems like stress has become something of a common occurrence in the lives of the modern man. There are so many demands at work, financial stuff to address personal life to fix, social commitments to attend. Life for a stressed out man can seem like a ball of clutter. You might, at first, think that it is something that you have to embrace. However, you are underestimating yourself. The living condition nowadays may seem very stressful but you can still be in control. This is not just an inspirational talk that we’re doing. It is possible for people to discover their own coping strategies for stress.
• First step to stress relieving is cope is to know and accept that there are things in life you can control and not control. Identify the aspects in life that you think you can gain control and manage effectively. Aspects such as money, work, family, and personal health are things that you can gain control. Identifying them can be tough so list them down and identify the factors that you think are contributing much to your stress.
• Second, identify how you cope with stress before. You may not notice it but you have developed habits in order to psyche yourself and feel like you are coping. It could be smoking, drinking, eating too much, shopping sporadically, being lazy, being angry, drugs, wasting time in front of the computer or TV, and avoiding social events with friends and family. They offer you a temporary kind of relief but the reality is that you just added another layer to your stress list.
• Third, know what you can do right now to alleviate stress. Stress eating, smoking and drinking can be hard to remove especially of one has become addicted but if you can, start minimizing the number of times you do these things. You might also want to talk to your credit card company on minimizing the limit of your credit card. This is to help you control yourself from spending.
• Another option for stress treatment is thinking positively. People under stress normally feel overwhelmed with emotions that cloud their sense of reason. Think twice before you do something.
• People react differently when they are stressed. Some people need to vent out to friends and family. Some people go to the beach and do some sports. Some people do yoga. Do something. Engage yourself in something that is worth your time and effort. A lot of times, when we say that we can’t, we put ourselves at a disadvantage. Had you been in that event, you might have enjoyed talking to people that might offer you insights.
• What about the things that you cannot control? Accept that these things cannot be handled by you. Putting too much thought or pressure in something will not help you in coping with stress. Also, learn to be easy with yourself. Stop being too hard on yourself and give yourself some rest. Sometimes, by just accepting the reality, it will give you a better perspective to pull yourself back together.
