Hong Kong is one of the two special administrative regions of the People’s Republic of China and is known for its impressive skyline and deep harbour.
One of the most popular attractions in Hong Kong is The Peak. The Peak offers simply amazing views of the skyline, the harbour and green hillsides. Getting to The Peak is an attraction in itself as you ride a tram up 373 metres. The incline is so steep that the buildings look like they are leaning at a 45 degree angle! The Peak is also a brilliant location to view Hong Kong’s dazzling lights at night. The Peak is not just a tourist attraction, it also a residential area for the corporate giants and top executives. You can also enjoy great walks soaking up the forests of bamboo and fern, hibiscus and vines.
The Ladies market is nicknamed such by the locals and is a street market which is a hangout for both tourists and locals. You will find mostly soft goods such as clothing, dolls, small rugs, linen; mainly items that do not interest a lot of men! The Ladies Market is located in the heart of Mongkok District and is easily accessible. Some say the Ladies Market offers a slice of the real Hong Kong as the Mongkok District is the world’s most densely populated place with over 130,000 people per square kilometre. Visit the market for a bargain or two.
Sheung Wan is a colourful area which offers a taste of the old Hong Kong, or rather a smell. The area is known for its bird’s nest and shark’s fin stores and also dried seafood. You will even find old style stores that sell rice by the catty.
At night Hong Kong is a city like no other and if you would like to walk along one of the most beautiful waterfront’s a city has to offer then take an evening stroll along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront. You can see Hong Kong Island across the harbour and view the Symphony of Lights laser show. The view is beautiful and camera’s just do not do it justice. During the day the waterfront walk offers the Avenue of Stars where you can lay your hands in the handprints of stars such as BruceLee, or you can enjoy a meal at a restaurant overlooking the harbour and the Hong Kong Island skyline. You may even get to witness the taking of wedding and bridal pictures as it is a very renowned place for wedding pics. A certainly magical place for a first date!
