Xavier Thoma Enjoys Several Water Sports
Windsurfing is an exciting and challenging water sport. It involves travelling over water on a small board, which is powered by wind acting on a single sail which is attached to the board with the help of a flexible joint. This popular summer sport emerged in 1960s in California and since then, it has gained huge popularity among adventure lovers across the world. These days, windsurfers enjoy this recreational activity on different waterways from indoor pools to open oceans. The modified surfboard allows windsurfers to move across the water at a very high speed. They stand upright on the board and control the sail that helps in maneuvering and catching the wind.
Some windsurfers prefer windsurfing in a calm environment, while others choose a spot with brisk prevailing winds that allow them to enjoy this sport to the fullest. One can choose from a large variety of surfboards ranging from long and short boards that have been specifically designed for different activities. In order to become a successful windsurfer, it is essential to understand the basics of sailing as well as surfing. The sail attached on the windsurfing board functions similar to the one attached on a sailing boat. If you wish to become a successful windsurfer, you must have thorough knowledge of how to work the wind, in order to reach a certain destination. It is also essential to learn the art of balancing, as it helps the windsurfer to stand upright on the board without losing control. In order to prevent yourself from the risk of falling into the water, windsurfers must be capable swimmers.
