Global warming has become a very serious problem of the contemporary world. Due to this the temperature of the earth and ocean is continually rising due to the emission of huge amount of greenhouse gases. As it has become a serious threat to the environment, the renewable and pollution free energy sources have been important in the present time. The industries are now looking to utilize the natural and eco-friendly sources of energy such as wind or solar energy to save the mother earth.
The most hugely available and reliable source of energy is solar energy. The main source of this energy is Sun. Sun being at the centre of the solar system, is the energy centre of the universe. The eight planets revolving around the sun in their own orbits are bound by the energy and force of the sun. Due to the huge force the planets stay at their places and the whole universe keeps moving. Thus as sun is the energy house of the universe, if we can use the energy of the sun directly for our necessary works and activities, it can be very useful in many cases.
The most important aspect of solar energy is that, it is available throughout the day; on the other hand, the resource is renewable and eco-friendly and hence plays a very important role in fighting the cause of global warming. Thus, today solar energy is hugely used for different purposes in industries and households. Solar hot water system, solar patio lights, solar attic fans, solar coffee makers are some commonly used devices run by solar energy used in present days. The energy is converted into electrical energy in a detailed process using solar photovoltaic systems. This is a method in which the electrical power is generated by converting solar radiation into direct current electricity. It is done using semiconductors exhibiting the photovoltaic effect.
Here the power generation uses solar panels consisting of solar cells that usually contain photovoltaic materials. When the solar cells are exposed to sunlight, the different junction diodes present in the cells convert the solar energy directly into electrical energy. The electrical output produced by the panel depends on the number and quality of the solar cells. The method of conversion of sunlight to usable electrical energy has been called the photovoltaic effect. It arises from the particular properties of the junction diodes used in the panel. Other external factors such as weather condition, obstruction of sunlight and the position of the panel also affect the output. For best result, the panel is suggested to be placed under direct sunlight condition.
However, the efficiency of the panels are measured by can be optimized with the use of dynamic mounts. This is device that locates the position of the sun in the sky and rotates the panel accordingly so that it can avail the maximum access of the sunlight and hence increasing the output of the panel. Most importantly, it can work almost all the days in a year depending on the availability of the sunlight.
