Hearing Loss A Common Symptom
If the ability for detecting particular frequencies of sound gets completely or partially impaired, the person attains deafness. The hearing loss can happen for many reason and different types of deafness exist among human species. The disease is very common and it can occur at any point of time and at any place. The diseases can sometimes be severe and it may also lead to other additional health problems.
A common type of this disease that occurs in most of the cases is conductive hearing loss. It occurs if there is a problem in conducting sound waves along the route through and the waves cannot reach the outer ear, or the middle ear. It generally results from physical problems. A very common cause can be blockage of the ear canal. The more serious type of deafness is called Sensory hearing loss. This kind can be mild; moderate can cause severe trouble also. The root cause for it lies in the vestibule cochlear nerve, in the inner ear, or in the central processing centers of the brain. However, it most commonly occurs due to poor hair cell function. These hair cells may grow abnormally at birth, or can get damaged later. On the other hand, external causes like noise trauma and infection can also lead to this condition.
There are some common causes that lead to most severe condition of deafness. Acoustic trauma that is prolonged exposure to loud noises can damage the hair cells and hence leads to most serious loss of hearing. Head trauma can be another reason can be another common cause behind it. Many vascular diseases like sickle cell disease, leukemia, or diabetes are very common for the occurrence of the disease. Along with these, children with kidney problems are susceptible to it. Some very common infectious diseases such a mumps, measles, herpes, syphilis can also affect the hearing process. It can happen gradually or suddenly. However, quick and effective treatment is very necessary as the loss of hearing can affect the balance of the body.
Different types of hearing aids have been invented to beat this problem. It is an electro acoustic devise for fitting behind the ears. However, many of its types are available in the market. Today, Behind-The-Ear instruments have replaced the body worn aids. Here the sound is routed from the aid to the ear mold through the tube. Another type called receiver in the canal is largely available in the market. Though, these devices look similar to the behind the ear aid there is one very crucial difference. The speaker here is placed inside the ear canal and thin electrical wire replaces the acoustic tube. This kind is the most preferred among the users in the market as the fitting is not visible when worn.
A less common type of machine is also available in the market. They use non-replaceable battery and hence are disposable one. However, these are designed to use power sparingly, and hence the battery lasts longer than those used in other types of machines.
