A person can assign his digital signature by means of digital certificate and private key, and pubic key is provided to the receiver for the verification of the digital signatures.
If a private key and pubic key combination matches then it is called as the authentic signatures, and if the combination is not right then we can’t treat an Digital signature as authentic.
