Giving Out Business Cards or Trash Cards?

Which is more frequently heard: “Can I have your business card?”, or “Here’s my business card.”?The latter is more common, right? It is easier to give out business cards than be asked for one. But, if you will be the one to receive the business card, which is easier: to keep a business card that was given to you or to throw it away? If I will answer that question, I would go for throwing it away but seriously, it depends on the business card.

If you want to avoid your business cards to be thrown away, you must put yourself on the recipient’s shoes. You must know what people might think if you will hand them out your business card. The usual statement that people will say is “Why should I keep your business card?”

When you give out your business card to someone, you expect that person to keep it. One fact that you have to know is that most people will keep your business card but that’s the end of it. It’s a sad reality but not all people will actually read the information written to it. Others may not even consider looking at it. They just get your business cards and keep it in their pockets right away and maybe, they are planning to dispose it when they get the chance to do it.

Here are some tips to follow to attain a lesser possibility of your cards being thrown away:

  1. Give it to the right people.

You want more people to know your contact details so bad but you really have to consider some factors before giving away your business card. Ask yourself before giving someone your card. Will he need it? It will be a waste if you will give out your cards to the wrong people.

2.   Give the right information.

Make sure that you have printed out business cards that hold the right details. What will people think if they dialed a false number, went to the wrong place or looked for the wrong person because you failed to put information correctly? It will not just be your business card that will be thrown away but also the possibility of having a customer, client or business partner.

3.   Make the best Business card designs.

Make your business cards as attractive as possible. Be creative in designing your business cards. Be careful in using different colors. Make sure that the colors that you will use will complement each other. Do not hurt anyone’s eyes by using outrageous combinations. Most likely, people will ignore your business card if you fail to take care of their eyes. ]

4.   Try new business card ideas.

Why not try something new in creating your business card? Try new cuts, shapes or appearance. There are online business card printing websites. You can try their ideas for custom business cards. You can research for templates for business cards or if you don’t have the right software, you can design business cards online.

Wouldn’t it be great if all the business cards that you have given away will be kept and will be used by everyone who received it? So stop creating trash cards and start making real business cards!
