Most people try on a pair of shoes under

the assumption that their feet are, and always have been, a certain size. However, this assumption is usually based on nothing more than past buying history and it does not allow for:

1. The fact that they may have consistently purchased poorly fitting shoes.

2. Generally most people’s feet change in size and shape as they get older.

Naturally, it is necessary to continually monitor and change the shoe size fitting for children as they grow towards adulthood and the instructions below will work on childrens feet.

How to measure your feet and find your correct shoe size

This is a simple 6 step process that requires you to have – two pieces of paper that are larger than each of your feet, a pencil, a firm flat surface to stand on and a ruler or tape measure.

1. Repeating the complete process separately for each foot, place one piece of paper on a firm flat surface. This can be a solid floor, e.g. a kitchen or bathroom or a panel of wood.

2. Stand on the piece of paper making sure that you bear an even distribution of your weight on it, exactly as you would if you were casually standing. If you normally wear socks, tights (pantyhose) or stockings, then wear these for the measurement.

3. Get another persoSottero and Midgley ASM3184n to draw around the outline of your foot by marking it on the paper. If you do this yourself you will bend or stoop and you will consequently change the weight distribution pattern of your foot. This may make certain areas of the foot expand or contract and you will not get a true reading. The pen/pencil needs to be held vertically during this outlining process.

4. Measure both the length and width of the tracing of each of your feet. Take the largest dimensions (i.e. the broadest and longest dimensions) of each foot and record these measurements in inches. Try to be accurate to 1/8 of an inch and 1/16 of an inch if possible.

5. Once you have the two measurements for each foot you need to subtract a figure that will represent the overlap of the pen/pencil’s width. This is normally assumed to be between 1/8 and 1/4 of an inch. Take away this figure from both the length and the width measurements to have a pair of accurate foot size measurement for each of the two feet.

6. In order to obtain your correct shoe fitting size you will need to take the dimensions that you have recorded and match them against a foot size versus shoe size table. These tables vary depending upon the country that you live in.
