University of Queensland Business School in top two in Australia for MBA

The University of Queensland Business School has been ranked in the top two in Australia for its MBA program in the 2011 survey by the Australian Financial Review BOSS Magazine.

The UQ Business School has retained its position as number one in Queensland since the last survey in 2009.

However at a national level, it has leapt up the ranks by five places from number seven to the number two position.

It was also ranked in second place nationally for its research capability.

The survey, which is conducted every two years by the highly-regarded Australian Financial Review Group, is Australia’s only independent national ranking of MBA programs.

A total of 1261 alumni were interviewed for the 2011 survey, which rates the top five MBA providers as Melbourne Business School, UQ Business School, Monash University, QUT and AGSM.

This latest ranking is a further boost for the reputation of UQ Business School.

The MBA program is already ranked as amongst the top one per cent in the world by The Economist and has been awarded the highest possible rating of 5 stars by the Graduate Management Association of Australia, the country’s most influential rating body.

The survey found that over 90 per cent of UQ Business School alumni considered the MBA to be value for money while 89 per cent felt that it prepared them for a wide range of economic conditions and put them in a better place than their co-workers, especially in the light of the GFC.

It found that MBA students had gone on to improve their skills in the areas of leadership, teamwork, strategic thinking, problem analysis and decision making since their graduation.

The Dean of the UQ Business School, Professor Iain Watson, said: “We are delighted to have achieved such a significant uplift in our ranking in the latest survey, which vindicates the efforts we make to push our standards ever higher.

“Our MBA program is recognised as world-class and we are justifiably renowned for our research capabilities, however we continually look for ways to enhance our offering and the outcomes for students.”

The UQ Business School MBA covers the key areas of contemporary management practice.

Graduates possess a comprehensive working knowledge of management operations, have an integrated view of contemporary business issues, and demonstrate the communication and leadership skills essential to the management role.

UQ Business School offers three different MBA options to suit students’ lifestyle and work commitments.

There are two structured options – the Accelerated MBA involves 12 months of full-time study, while the streamlined MBA, which is only available to domestic students, can be completed in 24 months alongside their day to day job.

There is also a flexible part-time option that gives students as much time as they need up to a maximum of seven years.
