Flowers an Inspiration
Flowers have been a great source of inspiration for the poets since centuries. As flowers have a mesmerizing variety in colors and fragrances they catch the eye of a normal person and induce happy moods in him. But poets are the God gifted creature who is inspired by the nature and much closer to nature than any other person. The poets and the writers are the keen observers of nature they study nature and its behaviors.
Every writer has written about flowers, used them as a source of inspiration. They use flowers in their work as symbols and similes. Literature is the form of art in which writer; poets like artist study the deep connection between people and flowers. It is said by Ralph Waldo Emerson that, “Flowers are a proud assertion that a ray of beauty out values all the utilities of the world.” Mostly flowers convey a message of love, joy, beauty and strength in literature. Different comparisons are presented between flowers and people by the writers. As Tennessee Williams wrote in his literature, “the violets in the mountains have broken rocks.” This shows that even a very tiny flower of violets have tenacity and strength.
The symbolism is clear and evident from this phrase. Poetry and literature is always considered as painting pictures or the sceneries in our mind. “Summer set lip to earth’s bosom bare, and left the flushed print in a poppy there.” “When all at once I saw a crowd, a host, of golden daffodils;” in both the lines we can imagine the whole scene and picture of the flower in our mind. So there are many master pieces of these kinds of poems which are famous for creating a complete image of the flower in mind. Roses are the particular subject of many writers to express the love as, “my love is like a red, red rose” by Robert Burns. The flower, as a symbol is center of many of the poems.
Writers and poets use flower symbolism not only to express the love and romance but also for different other purposes, perhaps the best pieces of writing are those that convey joy and hope to the people and boost up the enthusiasm. Gerard expressed his affection for flower as “every flower is a soul blossoming in nature.” In poetry flowers are used to express the perfection of nature and the beauty of the world gifted by God to get pleased with. Whether the flowers are used as a symbol or as a source of inspiration they have a great impact on each person’s life from a child to an eighty years old person and most of the impacts are related to joy, hope, and tenderness for them. Rhymes of childhood to the poems of adulthood and old ages flowers are always been an impression of beauty, happiness and pleasant memories for them.
“Flowers are those little colorful beacons of the sun from which we get sunshine when dark, somber skies blanket our thoughts.” Dodinsky
