Mahindra coming up with its new SUV XUV 500
Mahindra & Mahindra, the Indian SUV specialist unveiled the name of the soon to be launched Global SUV that has been under development under the project name W 201. The new Mahindra SUV will be called as Mahindra XUV 500, which is pronounced as “XUV5 double 0hh”. This is Mahindra’s first model to be built on its global SUV platform. Mahindra claims that the XUV 500 is truly a global car as it has received inputs from experts across the Europe, Australia and South Africa. The company has not disclosed the exact launch date of the new Mahindra XUV 500 but the company senior officials indicates that they might launch XUV 500 in the coming festive month. Mahindra XUV 500 Price in India is speculated between Rs. 14 to 15 lakh.
Mahindra XUV 500 Review suggest that XUV 500 will be a 2179cc engine car that will be powered by the same 2.2 litre mHawk diesel engine which is currently powers its most popular SUV Mahindra Scorpio. The engine can deliver 86.7 kw of maximum power with 290 Nm of maximum torque. It would be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. It is also expected to arrive in 6 speed automatic transmission option as well. The engine is well known for delivering excellent power and performance with impressive fuel efficiency. This is the first time that the company has build up its monocoque vehicle with a transverse engine in it. A monocoque vehicle is an integration of the body of the vehicle and a skeleton to form a complete unit. Apart from this powerful engine the XUV 500 would also be loaded with the advanced features like steering mounted audio control, parking sensors, cruise control, six airbags, ABS with EBD etc.
Mahindra is looking to position the XUV 500 between the Scorpio and the premium SUV range which comprises of the Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Captiva, Mitubishi Outlander, Honda CR-V and the likes. The XUV 500 will be available in both 4×2 and 4×4 variants. The new XUV 500 would run on a 17 inch alloy wheels. The new Mahindra XUV 500 SUV is expected to be in the premium SUV segment and is assumed to take on advanced SUV features besides comfort features of a sedan.According to planned structure, the company would be manufacturing the new vehicle at its Chakan plant based in Pune. Apart from introducing it in South African auto market, Mahindra and Mahindra also aim to offer the model in other international destinations such as Europe, Africa, Australia and Latin America
