In the case of a pregnancy the coccyx moves independently allowing the baby to pass through freely. However the coccyx bone in women is rotated so it faces the opposite side. This makes their coccyx more prominent and also opens it up to being easily damaged especially during childbirth or when they fall.
Generally speaking a tailbone can be damaged in any person if they land on the lower end of the spine. In cases where the coccyx is fractured the bone will heal itself without medical intervention. However rest and stress free seating is what is needed to make a full and quick recovery. A special diet is sometimes required. Fractures from falls, a difficult childbirth, weak bone structure, wrong posture; these could be causes for back pain.
There are many possible treatments for tailbone pain, low back pain, or coccyx injuries. Identifying the specific problem with the help of experts will determine what kind of treatment you need: whether it is surgery, physical therapy, exercises, diet, rest and recuperation, or all of these mentioned. In severe cases of back pain problems, the coccyx can be surgically removed.
