Skincare Review: Karuna Masks

Howdy – Krystal from PolishGalore again, and today I have some amazing treatment masks to share with you.  Karuna is a series of six, one-step, no-rinse formula masks that are individually packaged, hygienic and portable.  As a work at home single mom, I find that my spa days are nearly over which makes me super sad, but Karuna is literally a spa facial in one package.

The process is very simple.  First, start with a freshly washed face.  I also found it helpful to have your hair pinned back, including any bangs you may have.  Next, open the package.  There is going to be lots of extra serum in your package, but don’t throw it away.  Take out the mask and gently unfold it.  I did rip my second mask at the cheek, but it didn’t affect the product any.  Place the cloth side of the mask on your face and smooth it out, then peel away the paper backing.  Then you can smooth out all the folds of the mask to your face.  I found that the mouth section didn’t fit over my mouth (it was too low), so I had to scrunch the mask under my nose.  It also didn’t lay flat around the bridge of my nose, but again you can just scrunch the mask up to allow it to lie flat.  Speaking of lying flat, that’s the next step.  The directions say to relax for 10-20 minutes, which I declined to do the first time – I thought I could just continue my business, but the mask is a little heavy with the serum so in standing upright, I found that the mask started to drop down my face.  The next time, I laid down on the couch and watched some TV and not only did the time fly by, but also the mask stayed perfectly in place.  After the 10-20 minutes have passed (I used 20 minutes), simply take the mask off and rub any remaining product into your skin.  You will have quite a bit of remaining product, and Karuna recommends that you rub the rest of the serum into your neck, shoulders, upper chest, hands and anywhere else that would benefit from your mask.

The cloth mask is very comfortable, and the serum, which is a propriety blend of Chinese licorice, aloe vera, chamomile, vitamin B and other plant extracts to heal, detox, and renew all skin types, was cooling against my skin.  After the Anti-Oxidant Mask, I had to work in the sun, and my skin felt a little dewy from the serum, but it wasn’t a bad feeling.  After the Brightening Mask, my face felt slightly tight and very rejuvenated.  My Mom said my skin looked refreshed after both masks and ended up grabbing my Anti-Aging and Anti-Blemish masks from me, and I do still have the Hydrating Mask in my makeup box.

Overall, I was very happy with Karuna, and can’t wait to buy more – especially as gifts.  There is not a variety pack available at this time, but you can purchase one box set of any of the 6 masks.  The box contains 4 individually wrapped masks, which are to be used once weekly, for $28 – much cheaper than a month of spa facials!  You may follow Karuna on Twitter and “Like” them on Facebook and they even just launched their first video on YouTube explaining how to use the masks.
