More than 95% of tea gardens in Anxi county are still separate operations based on households. The contradiction between market requirement and low quality of the general tea producers is particularly thorny, which brings many restricted factors to realize tea standardized production, popularization of advanced technique and particular the work of guaranteeing tea sanitary quality reaching the mark.
(2) Processing enterprises and raw material sites are disjointed
Most processing enterprises don’t have their own raw material bases. They process the gross tea only by purchasing from other places, which is lack of raw material bases construction and is hard to guarantee the product quality. The problems of large-scale enterprises such as starving raw material, lacking working capital and lacking competitiveness are particularly thorny.

To cater for part of consumers’ requirement, some teaplanters blindly pursue the so called “faint scent” so they spin tea leaves lightly and process them lightly. But they’ve ignored the traditional feature “YIN flavor” of tieguanyin tea and that to a certain extent weaken the tea competitive edge of Anxi county.
(4) Market regulation standard is not in place
Currently, Anxi tea market regulation is not in place, the package marks are not complete, the quality grades are nonstandard, even the phenomena of over-package and bidding up happens occasionally. Meanwhile, some tea enterprises and operators publicize Anxi tie guan yin tea with biased words that are totally nonstandard and easy to misguide people. The nonstandard regulation of tea market causes some negative effect to the tea development of Anxi county.
2. External factors that Anxi tieguanyin tea industry is facing with
(1) The tea sanitary quality standard
For the past few years, the “green barrier” of tea trade in international market has been continuously growing such as Japanese affirming list system and the imported tea pesticide residue standard of European Union that have become the bottleneck restricting tea exportation of our country. The overseas tea market has a higher sanitary quality standard with more and more inspecting items and times. Meanwhile, since the domestic food problems had aroused extensive attention, reaching the tea sanitary quality mark has become a common concern for producers and consumers.
(2) Competition between neighboring tea counties is growing more intense
Recently, Yongchun, Huanan and other neighboring tea producing areas around Anxi have been developing rapidly, which forms challenge to Anxi tea industry in low and middle-grade tea. Meanwhile, teas like Wuyi Rock tea and black tea have been developing fast, which put up an intense competition with Anxi tieguanyin tea in the fringe market.
We believe that as long as the Anxi local government overcome the above problems, Anxi tieguanyin tea industry will develop well.
