Functions of Incubator
Incubator is used for premature babies. It was in 1857 Jean Louis Paul Denuce invented the first incubator which was used for birds like chicken to hatch eggs for a very long time. However, this concept of hatching eggs was developed later to meet the requirements for human life.
In 1891, French doctor Alexander Loin invented the modern incubator. Later in 20th century, the American hospitals began to use it on premature infants. It took many years for people to accept this kind of treatment for premature babies. However, it is now widely used in every hospital across the world. People began to realize the importance of incubator and the importance of keeping premature babies in the incubator.
Advantages of Incubator
Today, parents feel safe when their babies are kept in the incubator. Following this method, babies are given the same care while they are in the womb. The incubator creates the same warmth baby feels in its mother’s womb. The main advantage of using incubator is to keep the newborn away from all kind of germs in the air.
The incubator has several options in it that gives various control options to adjust the temperature, moisture and oxygen levels. it also has an inbuilt vacuum system that takes in the air carbon di oxide out. The ultra violet light in the incubator helps to protect the baby from jaundice.
There are few babies that are kept in the incubator for few hours but in certain cases babies are kept in the incubator for few extra hours – weeks to ensure their organs function well. The incubator has all the features and facilities to monitor the heartbeat and all other important functioning of the body.
Microbiology Incubators
The microbiological incubators are to endorse enlargement of microorganisms, by giving a narrow range of constant temperature. There are many types of microbiological incubators available today with multiple features such as carbon dioxide and humidity controls, circulating fans, automatic temperature monitoring system, UV lights and alarm system. The basic thermostat or temperature control device is use in all models.
