Coping with Dry Cracked Heels and Corns on Feet
The feet can be a major source of frustration. Despite meticulous care they can develop unsightly hard skin which seems can be an endless struggle to keep in check. Dry skin can form on the heels, with deep cracks forming which pick up dirt making the feet look like you have been working in the fields all day. If dirt isn’t the problem, they can become yellow from thick callused skin, and lumps of hard skin can form on the toes making them look rather unpleasant. These corns on feet are the bane of many a person’s life, being uncomfortable, sometimes painful and an eyesore. They can make people incredibly self conscious about their feet, and all of these problems can make the summer a nightmare, with sandals showing off the feet and all of their imperfections.
Coping with corns on feet, dry cracked heels and callused skin can be difficult and will undoubtedly require a small fortune to be spent controlling the problem. When you add up the cost of corn treatments and podiatrist’s visits over a lifetime you may be shocked at how much your feet are costing you. So what is the solution to this problem? How can corns on feet be stopped from ruining your life, dry cracked heels from ruining the appearance of the back of your feet, and callused skin from making a serious dent in your savings?
With all of these problems, whilst you may feel that you are being singled out and smited by God, or that your feet are at the end of an evolutionary dead end, but it is possible to correct the problem for good. However you will need to do some research, consult a podiatrist and find out the real cause of your foot corns.
Foot corns, calluses and dry cracked heels form for a reason. Hard skin is the body’s way of protecting the feet from pressure and friction. Whilst you may feel that your hard foot skin is a curse, it could actually be a blessing in disguise, as if it didn’t form, your feet would be suffering. Hard skin protects the feet from abrasion, and if it was not to form the lower layers of skin would become exposed and infections would be given a helping hand to break through the body’s defences.
Getting rid of foot corns and callused skin permanently means finding out why this pressure is a problem and why friction is occurring. In many cases this is due to footwear choice, and high heels, narrow toed shoes and your favourite fashionable footwear could be too restrictive, leading to friction of the skin or excess pressure. If you are honest with yourself about your body weight, are you carrying a few extra pounds and are your feet suffering as a result? Do you have fallen arches which are causing parts of your feet to suffer a little too much? These are just some of the reasons why corns on feet from and callused skin can take over. Dry cracked heels are often linked to being overweight, as the heels’ fat pad spreads due to the excess weight, and if the skin is not supple the heels can crack.
If the problem runs in the family, you can be 99% sure that it is an abnormality in the structure of your feet which is causing the pressure hot spots to build up. Whilst you may feel that the family has dealt you a duff hand and you are doomed to suffer for the rest of your life, consider orthotic insoles to correct the problem. They can make up for poor foot function and help to distribute the body weight more evenly.
You need not have to suffer a lifetime of foot skin problems, and if you address the underlying cause, whilst you may never have perfect feet their appearance can be greatly improved.
