The A4: Audi’s Flagship
The Audi A4 is generally considered to be a great all-rounder. The spacious, upmarket saloon car has a wide choice of efficient engines and running costs are relatively low. While it may not be as fun to drive as the BMW 3 Series, which is considered its main rival, it is still a great choice for personal and business users alike and even standard versions come with a good level of equipment and choice of engines.
Performance-wise, the steering of the Audi A4 is light and accurate if not as heavy and direct as the 3-Series, and road and tyre noise are both kept to a minimum, providing a comfortable drive. The A4 looks good too; LED daytime running lights add class to an already stylish front end and all models come with sophisticated alloy wheels as standard. The style continues to the interior, with an elegant metal trim and high quality soft-touch plastics making up the dashboard. Driving position is also highly adjustable to ensure drivers of all shapes and sizes will be comfortable driving the A4. Air-conditioning is included as standard, another comforting factor.
As well as looking good, the A4 is also practical too. Two tall passengers can easily fit into the rear of the car, with plenty of legroom and headroom, and the boot is also larger than many rival models. Safety is also a clear priority for the A4 –six airbags, anti-whiplash head restraints and a blind spot warning system are just some of the safety features that earned it a maximum five-star Euro NCAP rating.
Now four years after its launch, a new-look Audi A4 is reportedly on the way. Borrowing design touches and technology from the A6, there is likely to big changes to the interior of the new Audi A4. Epsom, London and Kent Audi dealers will be keen to stock the new A4 when it hits showrooms later this year. A hybrid version is also planned for 2014.
