Planning a Party: Party Themes and How to Plan
A party doesn’t have to be for a special occasion, it can also be just for something fun to do with a group of people you care about. When you have a party for a birthday, a regular get-together or some other reason, using certain party themes can make it much easier to plan the whole thing. For some ideas for party themes and suggestions about how to pull them off, continue reading.

Hosting a murder mystery party can be very fun for everyone involved. Typically, you purchase a kit based on what you want the theme of the murder mystery party to be. The kit includes the story of the murder and character information with a background (you’re limited to the number of guests the story requires and all guests must show up). You’ll send out invitations with the character’s background and ways they can dress up. Throughout the party, they learn more about the murder and learn clues about themselves to determine “who dunnit.”
You can also use the theme of the story as a way to prepare meals and create decorations. For instance, for a beach murder, you can prepare delicious alcoholic beverages with some smoked fish of some kind.
A pirate party theme lends itself to dozens of food, game, invitation and decoration ideas. For instance, find cool pirate invitations and write the invitation in pirate-speak, with words like “Aye” and “matey.” Have some things at the party in case your guests don’t follow instructions, like eye patches, bandanas and swords.
Decorate your home with a pirate motif to make it look like a huge pirate ship. For food, serve rum, beer and water for those who don’t drink. Serve seafood, but skip the fresh fruit if your party is taking place on the sea since fruit was scarce.
To keep your guests entertained create treasure maps, with the treasure hidden in a portion of the ship. Write out clues so they can find the treasure. You can also try “Capture the Flag” and remember – Pirates Cheat!
Tea Party Ideas
With a tea party, you have a lot of options. They can be simple, elegant or old-fashioned. You give your tea party a Victorian theme, or start a club with your daughter and other mothers in your area. This provides the perfect opportunity to practice etiquette and good manners. Make sure to have your tea party at tea time (about 2 o’clock). Have guests dress up in gloves, nice dresses and hats. Steep the tea and prepare cakes and breads.
