Is The Lingerie Look The Next Big Thing This Season?
For all those of you who are fashionistas you are probably aware that it was time for one of the big events of the US fashion scene this week – it was once more time for the New York Fashion Week. And the beautiful people turned out in their droves to come and see the latest trends and creations by some of the masters of the fashion world.
And it seems that the big talking point this year was around the latest fashion trend – turning lingerie into wearable fashion and garments that can be worn on a daily basis. In other words, making lingerie acceptable as outerwear fashion and not just classical underwear. Sound a bit far fetched? So read on to see why.
First up was the range designed by Calvin Klein’s designer Francisco Costa. And what a wonderful spectacle it was. Costa presented a range of clothing that celebrated femininity and sensuality by designing lingerie-like dresses made of tulle and silk. There were multiple styles on display – some of them were more ethereal with some low v-necks, sheer trims and even breezy pleated panels. One could not help but compare it to other fashionable lingerie like the Genie Bra for example.
Costa’s masculine looking boxy coats had a soft touch and the dresses definitely stole the show. But there were other delightful highlights too which included sheer tops that were very delicate that could be worn over one of many pretty bras and palazzo pants with a swinging look. The big talking point of course was designer Marc Jacobs and the collection he was going to put on display.
The big question on everybody’s lips was whether he has what it takes to replace John Galliano. Galliano has of course been recently disgraced but has always been seen as fashion’s ultimate performer at the fashion house of Christian Dior.
It seemed a bit like he had brought the drama of high fashion from Paris to the far more clinical fashion world of New York. And the clothes were absolutely fabulous of course. The elaborate show put on by Dior and Marc Jacobs for his spring collection seemed to demonstrate that the new designer has plenty of flair to do well for the famous fashion house.
Many of the fashion elements he incorporated into his show are very likely to trickle down to the H&M or Zara store near you. And the big feature was the dropped waist a-la 1920’s. This kind of look has been ignored and left on the back burner for years and is of course a nice extension to the palazzo style pants that we have seen all season.
And of course it would be nicely complemented by the Geniebra lingerie range. There’s no getting away from the fact that the trend this season is lingerie, lingerie and yet more lingerie.
