Then you had to go back to the car and drive to the subsequent store or town.
This could be a very frustrating and time consuming affair, and every now and then you could arrive back home with nothing to show for your efforts except a ton of frustration and tired feet.
Once the net became possible, it made Christmas shopping much easier.
