It is possible to divide the various websites that cover news stories into two main groups: those that charge a subscription fee and those that do not. However, within these two groups there is a lot of variety so you might need to try a few before you find one with a style that is to your liking. Local papers often have free sites where you can read about events in your part of the country and there are still a few national papers that do not charge visitors to access the world news on their website, although most of them do.
In addition to the free websites that are run by large media concerns, many independent operators have set up their own sites featuring comprehensive coverage of events from around the world. Some of these employ professional writers to produce completely original content, whilst others do little more than rehash stories from other sites. If you genuinely enjoy reading as opposed to finding it a necessary evil when you want to discover what is going on in the world, the former sites will obviously be of more interest to you. Friends and family are a good source of information when looking for such websites or, failing that, you could spend a couple of hours using a search engine to see what you discover.
Because new online information services are being developed all the time and existing ones are upgraded on a regular basis it is a good idea to have a look around every now and then, as you may well find a site that that is better than the one you are currently using. Internet news sites, in common with the stories that they cover from around the globe, are constantly evolving and changing.
