Environmentally Friendly Packaging Solutions For Everyday
Whether it’s a breakable vase or a stuffed teddy bear, it’s important to the person shipping the item or gift and having packaging solutions that are environmentally conscious are also a concern for many people. People ship items year round but the busiest time for a packaging and shipping company tends to be during the holiday season from about mid-October to mid-January. Getting a package to it’s designation in one piece and on time is the major goals of a shipping company.
A considerable amount of people are more environmentally conscious these days then they were a mere five or ten years ago. People are concerned about packaging and shipping companies and how much packaging materials they use to wrap and secure a package so it won’t break during transit. Packaging and shipping companies are using so much less materials these days, however, valuable and breakable items are just as safe as they were several years ago.
One of the major concerns shipping and packaging companies had was the over use of packaging peanuts. These are typically made of Styrofoam and this material is not a biodegradable material. This means it will last nearly forever in a landfill and never become part of the dirt. One way to save the landfills from these little packaging peanuts is to reuse and recycle them as often as possible.
Bubble wrap and plastics are another concern of those who want to make the earth a better place for those who come behind us. Reusing and recycling this type of plastic is one of the answers. Another is to use recycled plastic wraps to begin with. There are several major companies that manufacture plastic packaging materials that are made from plastic bottles and plastic shopping bags as well as other materials. Once someone receives a package with this type of recycled plastic wrap in it, they could then used again and again.
A packaging design is going to be smaller and more compact in order to accommodate a smaller amount of packaging material but the same size item. There is really no need for an item to be shipped in a large box with a lot of air. Air is never a good cushion for breakables. There are air-bag style packaging supplies that some shipping companies use and again, these are made of thinner plastic in order to use fewer resources and to be more recyclable.
A great way to help save the landfills from overflowing with packaging materials is to return an empty box and the packaging materials to the shipping company. After a birthday gift or package from an online store has been received, a shipping company might consider taking the packaging materials and box back to be used again. Some of the boxes are sturdy enough to be used several more times and the tape used to close boxes is very strong.
People need to be honest with the packaging and shipping companies about what they are planning on shipping. There are sharp objects and flammable liquids that could harm a driver, handler or shipper if they did not know what was in the package. There are special containers for shipping this type of item and special ways of handling it. The best thing for any type of package to be shipped is to leave it open and let the shipping company wrap and package it up for a person right there in the store so they know how much packaging materials to use and what is in the container.
Packaging solutions for everyday needs can be found at a packaging store that specializes in using recycled materials and using less. When it comes to saving the environment, using less packaging materials and reusing what’s already out there is the best option for those who want to help out Mother Earth.
