Usually these used oil burners are expensive when bought. You may choose to make it at home. But, most people prefer not to because it takes a lot of time and some amount of technological knowledge. So the point is, you cannot just buy a device that is expensive and not maintain it at all. Like every machine, your used oil heater needs maintenance too.

Once you buy the device; make sure that you get it tuned up once a year. The oil heater must be checked and cleaned to make sure that it works fine. Hire a certified technician to do the servicing. Do not let any amateur technician do to it. Do not try to do it yourself either. Proper scanning of the device will require the right tools and analyzers which only the experts will have. They can check your device and see if any of its part needs a replacement or repair.

To ensure that your used oil heater works fine; you must also make sure that you are maintaining it regularly and not just depending on the annual check-up. Motor oil is mostly used in such devices. But these oils are usually contaminated and dirty. So, you need to make sure that it is filtered. The oil used in the furnace should contain minimum dirt and sludge. You should also make it free from moisture. It is not possible to make used oil 100% clean. If you put the oil through a centrifuge, it can be cleaned up to 95% only. Putting the oil through 20-30 micron filters can serve your purpose.

A new batch of used oil should never be put in the holding tank of your used oil heater. The oil should be made to sit for two days at least. Once the crude has settled down to the bottom; use a suction wand, so that all the oil can be sucked out of that container to the main holding tank. But, make sure that the oil is not sucked out of the last couple inches of the barrel.

There should be no antifreeze or water getting into your supply of used oil. If any of these materials get into your used oil supply; it may harm your used oil furnace. Do not run your supply through your system if you think it is contaminated.  It is great to invest on these used oil furnace. They might seem like an expensive purchase. But, in the long run they save a lot of money for you. Maintain your device to make sure that it provides its optimum service.
