How to Care For the SD Card of Your Digital Camera
There are ways to make the SD card of your digital camera last longer. This way, you can ensure that your valuable photos or “memories” are kept securely in its SD card. Found below are tips in using and caring for our digital camera’s memory cards.
. Don’t use the SD card or memory card if you encounter problems like a card error message or you accidentally delete your images. It is still possible to fix or recover these but you need to first stop using the card because you might end up overwriting your other images. You can resort to data recovery tools or services to restore these images.
. Don’t delete pictures in your camera but rather on your PC. Doing so can prolong the life of your memory card. If you will keep adding or removing directly on your SD card while it’s inside your digital camera will just deteriorate its efficiency. It’s still better to erase all the images at once after you’ve uploaded them on your computer.
. Don’t just take out your memory card or SD card when you connect them to your PC. You should always remove them properly by clicking SAFELY REMOVE HARDWARE or EJECT. After you’ve uploaded the images you need to your computer, follow proper procedure in ejecting the card before taking it out of your card reader.
. Don’t just use one SD card. Having multiple cards is better than using only one card. This way, you don’t need to keep removing or transferring photos every time you’ve used up all the available space. Also, if you lose data on one of your SD cards, you still have data in another memory card.
. Don’t fill your memory cards completely. There are actually SD cards that have issues once you fill them up completely. Just to be sure, don’t maximize your memory card.
. Don’t forget to reformat your SD card periodically. When you do this, it will wipe away all data, images and file names on the card but doing so will let you start fresh on your digital camera. Make sure you’ve downloaded all your photos and files before you do this or you’ll end up losing all of them.
. Don’t remove your SD card while the camera is still ON. Though problems of “voltage shock” may have been fixed by digital camera manufacturers already, it is still better to be on the safe side. Make sure you check you camera manual.
. Don’t forget to update your SD card. This is because they usually have a limited life.
With the decreasing prices of secure digital card options, it is not easy to update your cards from time to time. You can now choose from various SD cards, memory cards or media cards with different storage capacities.
