Non-Running Vehicle As Car Donation
Do you have any clunkers rotting in your garage? If you have a car that no longer runs, or in a very bad condition, you can still make some cash for such clunkers if you donate it to charity. Yes, by donating it to charity, you receive a tax deduction at the end of the year. Most charity even do the pickup for damaged or even wrecked cars in any condition. That’s a real nice convenience on your part right?
The most important thing is you need to call the charity over the phone and ask if they take cars that are not in running condition. There are some organizations that only take vehicles in good running condition though, so do contact the charity of your choice first and inquire. Some of the charity also have a page on their website wherein you can ask questions about how to donate your vehicle.
From there, the donation process is generally the same .If they do take a car whether it runs or not, they’d probably are going to give you a phone number, a toll free number , or a website where to submit your donation information. That includes who is going to get the tax receipt, the address where they are going to mail the receipt. They would want t o know the year when the car was manufactured. They’d also might want to know additional information about the cars condition, whether it runs or not, if it has wheels, contact information on who to call when they pick up the car , the location on where to get the car and so on.
Then they will also ask you to sign over the title. Generally, running or not, the charity will need a title to accept the charity donation. The charity will ask you to sign your name and date, your signature, and they will ask you to put the charity’s name in the buyer/new owner section.
That’s about it. It’s that easy to donate. So don’t hesitate to donate if you have an old or unused car. I personally donated my spare car, an old Ford, since my favorite charity has a car donation program . It was not in running condition anymore. Good thing the charity accepted and even towed the car for me. It was tax deductible and the best thing about it is that I get to help others who need it more.
