Gadget-Packed Focus
When the new Ford Focus went on sale earlier this year, like most I was very excited as a Ford enthusiast. However, unlike many of the others I was more interested in the innovative technology presented in the new Focus. Ford has been adding new technology to its cars to make them stand out from the competitors; the new Fiesta for example comes with gadgets that are normally only found on big cars.
As well as the in car entertainment system I was eager to get my hands on the driver assistance systems. At the 2011 Auto Express Awards the Focus on an award for is driver assistance features’, highlighting the advancements Ford has made in this aspect of car design.
Graham Hope, Acting Editor, Auto Express said: “This year’s Special Award has been handed to the Ford Focus because it puts the kind of high-tech safety kit you expect to find on expensive executive cars within the reach of the motoring masses. Its innovative Driver Assistance Pack breaks fresh ground in the family sector by including a raft of potentially life-saving features at a surprisingly low price.”
The Ford Focus driver assistance pack has:
• Traffic Sign Recognition technology
• Auto high beam headlight adjustment
• Active city stop
• Lane departure warning system
• Lane keeping aid
• Driver drowsiness alert
• Blind spot alert system
All of the features and systems listed above help the driver avoid an accident; I particularly like the traffic sign recognition system, which displays the current speed limit on the instrument cluster – which will help drivers stop speeding. I am yet to fully test these features out. I am going to head to a Ford Focus dealer in Loughborough this weekend so I will put an update up.
