Enrique Pena Nieto: Mexico’s Leader in 2012?
On 2012, political analysts believe that the country would be subjected to a three-party presidential race among AMLO, Felipe Calderon and Enrique Pena Nieto. The first two, however, had already shot themselves in the foot by making the greatest blunders in their political campaign. Calderon, for example, lost his credibility when he decided to launch a personal attack against AMLO and citing him as danger to the country. AMLO was almost as bad when he displayed no sign of respect at all to what Mexico’s greatest institutes stood for.
Enrique Pena Nieto may be young compared to other politicians but youth did not always go hand in hand with experience. In terms of relevant working experience, Nieto definitely had that. He was able to work as a Citizen Zone I delegate, taught classes in the Electoral Training Center and even acted as Chief of Staff for the Economic Development Secretary and later on as one of the deputy secretaries of the state government. His ability to work in different positions allowed him to develop a more rounded view of the government as well the role it plays in rebuilding the country and empowering its economy.
During his work in the administrative offices of the government, Nieto was able to gain the most valuable advice from some of the most respected officials. He was able to work as President of the Health Institute’s Internal Council, thus exposing him to the workings of the health and medical arm of the government and realizing what else he could do to improve public health and welfare. Nieto was also part of the national Institute of Public Administration. As a member of such an institution, no one would be able to dismiss his work readily.
Enrique Pena Nieto was also a part of the Integral Family Development System of the state government. Also known as the DIF, this institute helped Nieto realize another role of his and that is to safeguard the millions of families whose livelihoods depended on him. Even the children’s fate hung in balance since they tended to be the most affected whenever a marriage breaks down.
