ECU Flashing helps Enforce better Control on the Engine

The Power Train Control Module, also known as the Engine Control Unit is primarily a mechanism meant to determine the amount of fuel, ignition timings and several other parameters required by an internal combustion engine to remain in a workable mode. It functions by reading values from multidimensional performance maps, also known as LUDs. These are input values calculated from signals coming via sensor devices monitoring the engine.

ECU Flashing has been a recent technology in automobiles. Before this, attributes such as the air/fuel mixture, ignition timing, idle speed etc. were controlled via mechanical and pneumatic sensors and actuators.

•    Water Temperature Correction: This allows for additional fuel to be added when the engine is very close to being choked.
•    Transient Fueling: This prods the ECU for a specific amount of fuel when the throttle is brought into effect. There is a technical term for the same, more profoundly known as “acceleration enrichment”.

•    Low Fuel Pressure Modifier: Fire time is injected to compensate for a loss in fuel pressure.

•    Closed Loop Lambda: This is meant to help the ECU monitor a lambda probe that gets permanently fitted and for modifying the fuel to achieve stochiometric combustion. The air fuel ratio in case of traditional petrol powered vehicles is around 14:7:1.

To reiterate again, all these parameters are subject to a remap.

Other advanced functions include the likes of:

•    Wastegate Control: This helps set up behavior of a tubocharger’s waste gate and helps control boost.
•    Staged Injection: This helps bring on track the behavior of double injectors per cylinder.
•    Variable Cam Timing: Helps control variable intake and exhaust arms.
•    Gear Control: ECU Flashing is assisted in cutting down ignition during up shifts or blip the throttle during downshifts.

You remap all of them and the performance of the vehicle improves all of a sudden. You have a power engine with you ready to roll on all cylinders. You get better control over it, your poise increases and you are all set to unleash a beast on the roads that has the potential to stonewall vehicles standing in front of it as impediments.
