Pondering A Teaching Profession Through The Masters In Education
It was not easy to make a career change in middle life. Masters in Education made me fully equipped and ready to face any kind of problems and tribulations in regards to my teaching profession. After being on a management job for 25 years of my life, I now face the fears and dread of entering the classroom. I know it would be different from where I used to sit down as a student to be the one in front of the classroom facing the inquisitive and questioning eyes of the students.
I am meant to teach adults and I ask myself why I am pursuing this profession with so little to offer. I know I have the skills and the love to teach but will my students learn and understand what I’m going to do for them? This is going to be one of the toughest problem that I have to face by myself and I have to be mature and show them the right attitude of what a teacher should be. It is not easy to build a relationship with trust even if you come in front with a lot of qualifications proving the training and expertise. One important thing that matter is to create a great ambiance that will make it simpler to determine the strengths and weaknesses of my students.
I have always wanted to teach but the parents thought it best for me to enroll in a business course. Financially, the business world is more rewarding and accomplishments are always met with salary increases and promotions. The passionate interest that I had in the teaching profession was lost in the successful business profession that I used to engage in. But it comes to the point in my life when money and promotions didn’t satisfy the emotional need I was yearning for. I became restless and opted for a change even if I knew that the probability were against me. I chose to attend several seminars and trainings before I finally decided to enroll for a Masters Degree in Education.
The transition wasn’t as I have feared. It was quite easy because the students were attentive and easy to please as long as you remain confident in the process of imparting knowledge. I can really see myself in my students especially in their quest for knowledge. This gives me more motivation to share the experiences I have obtained in my fruitful profession because I want them to meet the challenges of life with the same degree of passion that I had. I now realize that success is determined not by the financial benefits but the experience of being a part of a building a student’s life today and tomorrow.
