Neonatology Jobs Respiratory Therapists and Nutritionists
Neonatology is defined in simplest terms as the care of newborn babies. It is a field of medicine that cares for the most fragile members of our society in a time when they need it most: the first 28 days of life. It is divided into three levels of care, ranging from the most basic such as feeding and bathing, all the way up to intensive care in the neonatal intensive care unit. Yet regardless of the level of care needed, there are a multitude of neonatology jobs that all combine together for successful department.
When it comes to neonatology we typically think of the doctors who handle deliveries as well as nurses who provide much of the day-to-day care. But there are other occupations within the neonatal department that may not necessarily be seen unless the health of your baby specifically requires it. Two of those jobs, which we’ll discuss here, are respiratory therapy and nutrition. Both are necessary for a well functioning neonatal department.
Neonatal Respiratory Therapists :-
In a general sense, respiratory therapists are health care professionals trained in treating patients suffering from respiratory problems. These problems can be a result of illness, accident, trauma, or genetic conditions. A respiratory therapist is trained in how to deal with the various causes and help patients breathe as normally as possible. Becoming a respiratory therapist requires several years of education plus board certification.
A neonatal respiratory therapist is one who specializes specifically in the respiratory care of newborn babies. While it may seem that there is not much difference in treating babies and adults, nothing could be further from the truth. While respiratory issues in newborn babies may be caused by the same types of factors, caring for them is entirely different due to their fragile nature. A neonatal respiratory therapist must take all he or she has learned and adapt it to the newborn baby.
Neonatal Nutritionist :-
The need for good nutrition in a hospital care environment has been increasingly at the forefront of patient care within the last couple of years. This is true of both adults and children, regardless of their reasons for being hospitalized. Good nutrition has also made its way to the neonatal care department as doctors and nurses understand the need for proper nutrition in getting the baby started on the right foot.
Neonatal nutritionist jobs are a fairly new classification for many hospitals. Yet these healthcare professionals are experts in the field of nutrition and how to make sure newborn babies get all of the important nutrients they need to get them started in life. The role of the neonatal nutritionist is especially important in babies that might have certain allergies or food sensitivities. Having those things discovered and dealt with early on in the baby’s life makes things much easier.
