Control High Blood Pressure with Inderal Propranolol

Inderal propranolol is a prescription drug belonging to the category of drugs called beta-adrenergic blocking agents. These beta blockers are known to block the beta receptors in the body. These beta receptors are present in different locations in the body which include the heart, blood vessels etc. It is these receptors to which stress hormones like adrenaline get attached to give rise to a number of unwanted conditions such as high blood pressure, anxiety, irregular heart beat etc.

Inderal thus by blocking these receptors controls high blood pressure, controls hypertension, prevent irregular heart rythms, treat migraines, prevent anxiety and also treat stress related over active thyroid gland called hyperthyroidism. Inderal by decreasing the need of the heart for more oxygen and blood provides the required cardiac stimulation for healthy functioning of the heart.

The medicine was first created and developed by a Scottish scientist James W. Black in the 1960s. The scientist received a nobel prize for his commendable discovery and work on this medicine in 1988. Apart from its wide spread use as a prescription medicine to control high blood pressure, provide cardiac stimulation, treat heart disorders and disturbences, Inderal propranolol is also used by many performers like musicians, singers, actors, students etc. as an effective remedy for stage fright. The medicine by relaxing the body and curing anxiety eliminates the fear of public speaking and stage fright.

The medicine has also been studied for its recent use in treating post-traumatic stress disorder. Propranolol has been clinically shown to block the function of norepinephrine, a neurotransmitter that plays an important role in memory consolidation and recall. So in a study involving patients with trauma, those who were given Inderal immediately after traumatic experience showed less severe symptoms of PTSD as compared to other patients with similar traumatic experience.

Since Inderal is a prescription medicine it must be taken under the supervision of a certified medical professional. The recommended dose of inderal propranolol to control hypertension is 40 mg tablet taken two times in day for a short time period of one week. However for cardiac stimulation and angina pain, 40 mg tablet is taken thrice a day and higher doses of 80 mg is taken to prevent heart attack.

The mild side effects are light headedness, nausea, dizziness, drop in blood pressure, hypoglycemia etc. So take this medicine with caution.
