Going Green at Home
As children of the earth we should care about the environment, and particularly about the effect we have on it. Future generations could be doomed if we do not take action soon. We should reduce the effect we have on the environment. We should insure that there are clean air and fresh water for the forthcoming generations. There are various ways to be eco-friendly, some of which are way to expensive, but still simple decisions really matter.
First, reduce the electricity use. Going green can be money saving. Compact fluorescent bulbs last much longer and use about three fourths less electricity.
Next, reducing the use of your home appliances is closely related to reducing the electricity usage. For example, only run the dishwasher and the washing machine when fully loaded. By doing just this you will reduce both the water and the electricity usage. Friends of mine working as cleaners in Melbourne claim that the vacuum machine uses less electricity than a hair-dryer. Not to mention the dryer which requires a lot of power to dry your clothes up.
Then, the water usage can also be reduced. Instead of staying less in the bath you can install a low-flow shower head. They are all significantly effective.
What about the decoration of your home. All those paints used have harmed the environment enough. So next time you consider redecorating choose paints that do not contain organic compounds. Except avoiding possible health, in particular respiratory, problems you contribute for a better tomorrow.
Properly dispose of hazardous waste. Cleaners, oils, paints, pesticides, batteries and solvents should never go out with the household garbage. In addition to the cleaners, use only ones labelled “green”. For cleaners Melbourne offers a huge number of different eco-friendly cleaning agents. They do not really seem to have any difference in the quality of the cleaning when compared to the chemically based ones. But still what we do for the environment is priceless.
