Of course, you have heard the word Aussie. Do not think it can insult a person from Australia. It is absolutely normal. When I went to the uni (university) of Melbourne I had to lease an unit (apartment). Then when the contract came to an end I did not want to continue it so I hired end of lease cleaning Melbourne and I got my security deposit back and left the tenancy. I hired a truckie to help me with moving out the furniture which I had bought cheaply from a sale near the bottle (liqueur) shop.
Then, being an Aussie has its cultural definition. Aussies enjoy a said to enjoy a laid-back lifestyle. They, as most nationalities, enjoy sports and beer. Still, they get rotten (drunk) and smoke durries. Then they have small glass of beer which is called pot. This is kind of beer to drink during the day to not get rotten. The most popular sport is cricket, but football is highly popular as well. Many would suggest they love animals and they wont be wrong. We all know the road sign warning about “roos” passing. In addition, Australians drive on the left side of the road as in the UK.
Aussie can have a historical meaning as well. Some can regard to the word “Aussie” as defining the “convict class”. The story is a popular one but still : about 150,000 prisoners were relocated to Australia from Great Britain. People from all age and gender. They were released for good behavior. Some of them decided to settle and start a new life on the then vast country. But still people do not regard Aussie as something insulting. Cleaners in Melbourne often use their cleaning eqiupment to make cricket associated moves and jokes.
