Electric cars – the new era of automotive transport
Just ten years ago electric cars, and hover boards were a thing of the very distant future. They are fast becoming an everyday necessity, a choice for buyers within the car market and a new way of selling for car dealers in NI.
With a huge range of choice, electric cars and hybrids are all available now and across a range of manufacturers offering models such as the impressive Nissan leaf, gangster Vauxhall Ampera, small and compact Mitsubishi i-Miev and the ideal city choice, Peugeot Ion.
Whilst the electric plug ins are hugely expensive, there is a government scheme offering bonus grant for those vehicles that are under thirty thousand pounds. Car dealers in NI and the rest of the UK is having to change tactics in order to deliver and sell these rather expensive vehicles. The new electric models may be light on fuel however they are still heavy on the price.
Now it would appear that perhaps there is too much choice from the electric car market and that actually the intent to sell a certain amount of models per year is not in unison with the actual figure of sales.
Within the next two or three years, NI car dealers can expect to receive the new Renault Zoe, an electric vehicle from the smart range and by then more than three thousand Nissan leafs are expected to be on the road.
Before people decide whether these vehicles are for them, we need to be reassured that the charging points are in place, and that car dealers in NI and across the rest of the UK are well equipped to help out with servicing and last minute problems.
