Things You Should Prioritize When Making a Baby Registry
Making a list of things that will go to your baby registry? Before you become swayed by all the cute things you will see in baby stores, it is better to make a more practical list. After all, a baby is too small to appreciate so many toys and gadgets that you might be inclined to reach out for. It is best to focus on exactly what will be used in the coming months and which items will stretch out their value and lifespan from a few months to the next couple of years.
The trick to making a baby registry which a majority of the people who will look at it will appreciate is to have a wide budget margin. Baby stores carry the smallest things all the way to the biggest things, and your friends and relatives will have budgets that range from cheap to downright expensive. If you list down all expensive items and simply spend for the economical ones yourself, chances are not many people will like your baby registry. But if you give them a wide range of options they will be more inclined to give you what you want in baby stores.
Some of the big things you should prioritize in your baby registry include: a crib, a car seat (if you own a vehicle), a high chair, a baby dresser and a playpen. These big ticket items are common in baby stores so it will not be hard for your guests to choose from the range of designs and colors. These things will be useful even after one year into your child’s life. Skip the walker and the bouncy chairs because your baby can easily outgrow these and for sure, you can find a makeshift way to get your hands free without having to buy things like these.
As for the smaller things, choose items that will be useful now and in the long run. In terms of clothes, choose dresses, pants and tops that are light, airy and stretchy – the more stretch, the better the chances of your child being able to use it as a blouse (from a dress) or long shorts (from long pants) as he or she grows up. Also include linen stuff like hand towels and bath towels. For the meantime you can use it to wrap your baby up after a bath; in two years you might be handing it to him or her so he or she can wipe his or herself up. See how this goes?
In the end, you will still spend for the consumables like baby food, diapers, rash cream and the like. It is nice to note that the more permanent stuff (and the stuff that you are seriously not looking forward to paying serious amounts of money for) has been given to you by your guests care of the baby registry. But as a small treat or two, it would not hurt to throw in a cute item you want – a generous or doting uncle or aunt might be kind enough to buy it and for sure your little prince or princes deserves something – even one thing – as grand or lavish as it.
Scouting baby stores to choose items for your baby registry is fun, but make sure you keep practicality in the front line so you end up with stuff you need rather than stuff you just want.
