Do It Yourself At Home: The Pedicure

Pedicures have been established, in numerous circles, to be helpful. They don’t merely help your feet feel better; when they incorporate things like massage, they can improve blood flow, reduce your stress, and reduce pain. Of course, many of us aren’t super excited about the idea of getting a pedicure from a professional. Getting a professional pedicure means having your feet subjected to tools that have been used on many other individuals and you never know if the salon maintains good hygienic standards. Luckily, there is a way to give yourself pedicures. If you are interested to learn how to perform your own pedicures, keep reading.

Get rid of any nail polish using a non-acetone polish remover (acetone is bad for your health). Clip your toenails straight across and use a nail file to smooth down any roughness. Be sure you use a toenail clipper to clip your toenails rather than a fingernail clipper. Clippers designed for clipping fingernails have a curved shape and can make your toenails become ingrown and start hurting.

Soak your feet in warm water. Try to soak your feet in the bath for at least three minutes-ish. You can put things like lavender bath salts or other skin moisturizers and soothers. This can turn the foot bath into a seriously soothing experience and help your feet feel very good. Foot soaking crystals are sold in just about any bath and body aisle of any department store in the country. Naturally, a few might cost a little more but pick the ones you like most.

Use a pumice stone to smooth down any rough patches or calluses that may still be there after the foot soak. Don’t use callus shavers or similar tools. An a pumic stone should suffice.

Rinse your feet after you are done using the pumice stone. When you have rinsed off the dust from the pumice stone and your calluses as well as any foot soak-ness that is still there, apply some moisturizing lotion. You can find dozens of different types of moisturizing lotions created specifically for the feet. Don’t simply rub in the lotion, but you can if you are in a hurry. Instead, if possible, deeply massage in the lotion. Massaging helps calm not only your feet but the rest of your body also.

Now that your feet are squeaky clean, free of calluses and have been properly moisturized, if you have time, the next step is to make them beautiful. Though this isn’t exactly an important step, knowing that your toes are pretty (even if you’re the only person who can see them because your feet are stuffed into closed toe shoes all day) can do so much for your self-esteem. Try to use a cuticle pusher on your cuticles (don’t use a cuticle trimmer since they can cause cuts and other problems). Apply a coat of nail strengthening polish. When the first coat has had the time to dry properly, paint whatever colors or designs that you want!

At home pedicures need not take much time and are usually less expensive than what you would pay for professional services. They’re wonderful for your whole body health, so get going!
