A major restoration: time to visit the Colosseum!

A 25-million euro undertaking: the recently approved project of restoration of the Colosseum of Rome. The intervention plan was proposed by the Commissioner for archaeological sites of Rome and Ostia Antica through an agreement with the Special Superintendence for the Archaeological Heritage of Rome, a project funded by Tod’s Spa Group, a sponsor proposed by the Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activities, in partnership with the Municipality of Rome.

According to the project, upon completion of the work, the surface of the Colosseum that can be visited by tourists and visitors will be increased by about 25%. In addition to replacing the current sealing system of arches on the ground floor and restoration of the northern and southern facades, the programme also includes the restoration of pathways and subterranean areas, measures for compliance and implementation of facilities, the setting up of a services centre that will accommodate all the outside activities in support of tourists who want to visit the Colosseum. Measures will also be taken to do the surface cleaning in travertine, equivalent to about 13,600 square meters, following the guidelines agreed in the 90s with the Central Institute for Restoration of the Ministry. The project represents an important incentive for the promotion of a tourist attraction such as the Colosseum that currently has no equal in the world, and that in the contemporary era will revive its symbolic image and full of meaning of the Ancient Roman Empire. The Professional Rome guide, a team of tourist guides to the city and the province of Rome, will accompany you on visits to the Colosseum with an exclusive tour of the Flavian Amphitheatre, a package of visits organised for visitors, tourists and curious people interested in history and cultural settings that accompanied the Colosseum over the years.
