Baylis Rally Round For BEN
Two Baylis Vauxhall employees took on the Bangers4BEN challenge this month to raise money for the charity. Terry West and Wes Dunne from the Baylis Vauxhall Cheltenham branch drove a seventeen year old Vauxhall Astra to Italy and back as part of BEN’s annual rally.
The pair set off from Dover on Saturday 8th October and drove the 827 miles to Maranello, the home of Ferrari in Italy, in their banger worth less than £500. In Maranello, they were treated to a tour of the Ferrari museum, where models through the brand’s history were on display. Ferrari has produced some of the most iconic automobiles ever made, and is a spiritual home for enthusiasts across the world, as well as a physical home for the manufacturer.
The BEN rally teams returned to the UK on Tuesday 11th October, where their cars will be auctioned off to raise more money for the charity.
BEN is the UK’s only charity for those who work, or have worked, in the automotive and related industries, as well as their dependents. In 2010 Baylis was awarded a Gold Quality Mark for their support of the charity, and took part in last year’s rally to Monaco.
The Baylis team’s used Vauxhall Astra was prepared in the company’s workshops, but had no special modifications. The car was resplendent in ‘Ghostbusters’ livery, designed by Nocturnal Signage, and kitted out with distinctive roof lights, which echo the vehicles in the film.
So far the team has raised around £700 for BEN.
