Kodo: Mazda’s future design theme

Japanese manufacturer Mazda has always been ahead of the game when it comes to design innovation. Just think back to the launch of the Mazda MX-5 – a car that was based on classic British roadsters of the 50s and 60s but with a deliciously futuristic twist.

Yes, Mazda have always been able to seemingly predict what is going to popular in automotive design, and their latest design theme ‘Kodo’ looks like it will prove to be no exception.

The two cars produced so far with this theme in mind, the Minagi and the Shinari, are both very beautiful automobiles and, hopefully, a sneak peak into what the next generation of Mazdas will be like.

With its dynamic, sweeping lines and ready-for-anything attitude, the Minagi epitomises the evolution of Mazda for a new era.

The revolutionary ‘SKYACTIV’ Technologies forming the Minagi’s DNA have been carefully developed to create harmony between driving pleasure and outstanding environmental and safety performance. As for looks, the Minagi’s distinctive Kodo design evokes a powerful and emotive sense of pent-up energy and vitality – creating standout on sprawling cityscape streets. An altogether exciting concept car.

The Shinari design Refers to the appearance of person or an animal as it flexibly transforms its body to generate a fast initial movement, or sudden acceleration, expressing the powerful movement of a lean body with highly developed muscles, supple but at the same time filled with tension. The Shinari is a pure design concept of a four-door, four-seater sports coupe, details to look out for include a new grille with inbuilt light tubes, to emphasise the five-pointed radiator, and twisted, tensioned surfaces that exude a sense of dynamism.

Whatever becomes of these two concept cars one thing is for certain – Mazda’s future looks bright.
