Conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commision), IAS Exam (Also called Civil service Examination) is noramally considered to be very tough and the most Competitive exam and the students normally find it very tough to Crack. Lakhs of students Compete Every year for less than 1000 seats for appointment in the prestigious civil services of India (having a success ratio of as low as about .2 %).

The genaral approach for this exam is that it’s out of range of normal students and is meant for that specific group of students that have some extraordinary skill to crack this exam. So most students fail not because the exam is very tough, but because they did not do their IAS preparation efficiently because of a wrong concept in mind regarding the toughest of the exam.

Below are the stats for 2008 IAS exam, take a firm look,

Number of Candidates applied for the exam- 3, 18,843(Three lakh eighteen thousand eight hundred forty three)

Thus we observe that more than half of the candidates backed away before even beginning.
Also, out of the 1, 67,035, only 40,000 were Serious and dedicated, rest didn’t prepare for the exam due to the wrong concept in their mind or they went to take the exam just because their parents’ pressure, they were not prepared at all. So half the battle is won if we have in mind the right concept in about the competition in the exam and success can definitely be ensured!!!

Again, out of the remaining 40,000, 10,283 were selected for the mains exam (1 out of every 4 is selected i.e. a high success ratio for about 25%), 1582 were selected for the final interview, and finally, 791 out of those 1582 were selected for the prestigious civil services.

Remember, It’s not Possible in real means to overcome the expectations of UPSC, but it’s possible to analyze the intensity of competition that exists between civil service aspirants and then to plan for every stage with right concept in mind to conquer the competitors, That’s a better way to look at this exam rather then try to cover everything and do IAS preparation to overcome the expectations of UPSC is an unreal approach!!
