Overview: Acid Reflux

Acid reflux or heartburns are one of the most common forms of disorders that a person may have. Acid reflux are said to be caused by the faulty functioning of a valve inside the body. This valve is called as the lower esophageal sphincter and is located at the junction of the food pipe or esophagus and the stomach. In most general conditions, this valve opens and shuts periodically only at times when food is to be allowed to slide down in to the stomach. This valve also opens when a person belches.

But, in case of heartburns or acid reflux, this valve may remain opened or may not be as properly shut as it should be. Thus, the acid present in the stomach comes in contact with the esophagus and causes burning sensation. This is also called asSilent Acid Reflux. This is because many people do not realize that at times when they have problems like bitter taste in mouth or feelings of vomiting, actually they are having acid reflux.

The symptom of Acid reflux can be experienced very often. These symptoms are so common that almost everyone might have experienced them. One of these symptoms of acid reflux may be said as regurgitation. The regurgitation occurs when a person feels a sour or bitter taste when the acid or fluids from the stomach appears in the throat and mouth. Dyspepsia or discomfort in the stomach is also a common symptom of acid reflux.

In order to stop acid reflux a person can make use of a number of remedies. These remedies may include natural or homemade remedies and also some medications. But for the people with severe problems with acid reflux, minor surgery may be an option.
