How to care and maintain a traction battery

Do you often go to shop in the supermarket? Yes, most people like shopping in some big market, such as Wal-Mart. In the Wal-Mart, you can buy what you want, including food, clothes, electrical equipments, daily essentials, etc. Sometimes you might see their staff using a forklift to carry their goods. What you see is a forklift truck. These trucks are not found in our family. They are often used in manufacturing and warehousing operations. Like other vehicles, the forklift trucks also have batteries which have a finite lifespan. However, the length of this lifespan depends very much on the usage application. The amount of use, the frequency of use, and the way in which the battery has been charged will all impact on the lifespan of a forklift truck battery. Here is not to talk about its performance affect factors. It’s just to teach you how to care and maintain a traction battery.

1. The traction batteries produce hydrogen, which may cause an explosion. Never smoke or allow a spark or flame in vicinity of a battery. Store or charge the traction batteries in the room with good ventilation, but do not in the wind to avoid corrosion owing to acid mist.

2. There is corrosive liquid in the traction battery, which may cause severely burning. Avoid contacting skin, eyes or clothing. But unfortunately it happens, immediately flood your injured parts with running cool water and get medical attention immediately.

3. When checking or maintain the traction battery, please use the rubber gloves to avoid suffering electric shock.

4. Keep the surface or connections of the traction batteries clean. Use wet cloth to get rid of dust and impurities and so on, or it could leak electric then cause fire.

5. When cleaning the traction batteries, be sure to use the wet cloth, not dry cloth.

6. Don’t connect the positive and negative of traction batteries with tools.

7. The temperature of electrolyte isn’t over 50 Celsius degree when charged, to avoid electrolyte overflow, special in the day of summer.

8. Before pulling up the plug of traction battery, to avoid producing spark, please be sure to turn off the switch of the forklift key and chargers switch.

9. The electrolyte level isn’t under the limited level, or the traction battery is very easily hot and easy to burn.

10. Don’t let children approach it.

Follow these ten tips to take care of traction batteries, and they will have a long service life and work well in forklift system. Unfortunately, with poor maintenance, its life will be very short.
