But that deal represented a low point for Karen, by then separated from the father of her three children. She felt ‘lonely’, ‘rudderless’ and quietly desperate.

This time she will, to a certain extent, be flying solo. Love the second time around has proved elusive. But if that concerns her still, as it once did, it doesn’t show.
She says: ‘It’s hard for women of a certain age to find someone special. In the first few years after the split, I used to panic because I thought I would never meet someone.
‘As a single, ageing woman, I feared being alone – maybe that’s why I didn’t always make the right choices. But I’m more confident now.’
She certainly looks fantastic. Though quiet and a little shy, she is undeniably sexy. Her long blonde hair is expertly styled, her still-youthful face artfully made up and her elegant burgundy dress clings flatteringly to her slim, toned body.
Throw in her multi-million-pound personal fortune and her spectacular seven-bedroom country mansion with five acres, and she represents quite a catch.
Her beginnings were considerably more humble. She was brought up in a modest three-bedroom council house on an estate in Maidstone, Kent, where she was the third of four children – she has two brothers and one sister.
