Scoring of the assurance process II
A previous blog (see link below) introduced the subject of “scoring the assurance process”, touching on how audit method and presentation can be improved through the use of both generic and bespoke scored audit protocols. This blog looks at the mechanics of the process and how DNV software is used to create and maintain the protocols, and process and present the resultant audits.
DNV creates audit protocols – a protocol is a series of questions or statements related to requirements – using a piece of software called “Protogen”. Alongside these questions, auditor guidance and auditor instructions are added, giving a unique way of improving consistency of audit through the use of information available during audit. “Tagging” of each question to a specific requirement – standards, company policies, company expectations etc. – creates possibilities for detailed analysis later in the audit process.
Audits are carried out using another piece of DNV software called “Summit”. This allows the auditor to create a variety of audit question sets from the basic protocol as required and also allows the audit results to be processed and presented in a variety of ways to suit the audience (using the “tagged” questions if required). This audit output can take the form of charts or data tables.
Software licences are available so that Summit can be used by the auditee after the audit is completed, to further analyse the results or even to continue the scoring method into the internal audit process.
