Happy Wheels – Game Review
Blood and fun – it is Happy Wheels, a physics-based motocross-style game. Even if the game’s name sounds inoffensive and peaceful, the game itself is rather bloody and violent. Your aim is to go through a track full of obstacles, traps and explosives and reach the exit. You have several characters to choose from: an old man in a wheelchair, a business guy on the Segway, an irresponsible father with his kid on a bicycle, or another one from offered characters, none of which seem to suit well such a dangerous journey. So playing Happy Wheels you have to be twice careful not to make your character loose an arm or leg, or even worse the head, spattering the screen with cartoonish blood. Or, maybe, just the opposite…
The injuries and blood are cartoony enough not to get too grossed out, but retain a sufficient degree of realism to appreciate dark humor of Happy Wheels. It may be fun to see your character loosing an arm, then breaking a leg at the knee, then to see the broken part trailing after the racing character and the red parts, imitating the blood, gushing forth and flooding the screen. Just be warned that as you injure your character more, it becomes trickier to control your character and finish the level.
Typically, the levels of Happy Wheels allow you to try the characters out and get a feel for the game’s physics. Sometimes, you are offered you a specific character and a mission for him: for example, get an important report to his boss for the business guy.
Happy Wheels is a side view physics-based obstacle course game. The basic controls are common for the games of such type: up arrow key – move forward, down arrow key – reverse, left and right arrow keys – lean left or right. Space, Shift and Control are used for special actions. Z is used to eject the character from the vehicle when you get stuck. The graphics of Happy Wheels is rather simple, but well done and suits the game.
The game has a build-in level editor, so if you have an idea of your own obstacle-filled track you can easily implement it. You can even share your creations with others, but you will need to register.
Though it may seem impossible, but Happy Wheels is violent and funny at the same time, though the view of lost body parts and cartoonish gore may not be liked by all people. But if you like such things and if you like motocross games, you will certainly like Happy Wheels.
