Home Remedies For Nail Fungus, Simple And Effective Ways

Nail fungus, scientifically known as onychomychosis is caused by the tiny organisms known as tinea unguium. It begins as a yellow or white spot under the nail and will spread to the entire nail causing discoloration of the nail. The edges begin to crumble and become a potentially painful problem. Nail fungus usually develops on nails which are continually exposed to the moist and warm environment, like sweaty shoes, socks and shower floors. It is very important to treat nail fungus timely; otherwise the fungus will grow causing the nail to come off with the region giving a foul smell. There are many home remedies which are cost effective and can be easily used in this problem.

One of the common home remedies for nail fungus is to soak the infected nail or toe in a mixture which contains one part of vinegar and two parts of warm water for almost 15 to 20 minutes. Now rinse and pat your finger or feet dry after you are done.

Hydrogen Peroxide is also helpful in treating fungus problem. You can get it from any pharmacy. You can soak the entire affected area in pure hydrogen peroxide for almost 20 minutes twice daily, once morning and once before going to bed. If you feel that the undiluted pure solution is little bit too harsh then you can dilute it with water. Once done you should then dry it with a super absorbent paper towel.

Since tea tree oil is known to be a powerful antiseptic and fungicide it can be used to treat nail fungus and is one of the most effective home remedies for nail fungus. You can rub the affected area by cotton ball dipped in tea tree oil twice daily, once morning and once before going to bed.

Applying Vicks vaporub on the affected area has proven to be beneficial for many. It stops the growth of the fungus. Listerine is a mouthwash and can be used to treat this fungus problem. Soak the affected area in Listerine for almost twenty minutes twice daily. Or you can even use alcohol by soaking the affected area in it and then drying it by super absorbent paper towel.

Since the fungus grows in warm and moist environment certain things should be kept in mind such as wearing breathable shoes and pure cotton socks, try to keep the affected area as dry as possible. Consumption of dairy products, sugar and vinegar should be reduced. Add yoghurt and kefir in your diet. These were some of the home remedies for nail fungus which are effective and user friendly.
