The benefits of getting courses accredited by a nationally recognised awarding body
The Qualifications Credit Framework maintained by Ofqual ensures that the learner gets relevant qualifications that are beneficial for society. Ofqual has built a structure of accrediting qualifications, with units being building blocks of qualifications. An Ofqual recognised awarding body will provide qualifications that are put together by the generally agreed rules of the framework.
Qualification development and qualification accreditation
The Ofqual framework permits units, which are basic building blocks of qualifications, to be deposited within the unit bank. Then the units within the unit bank are used for developing qualifications which in turn are sent for accreditation. The qualification is later developed and there are roughly three levels for each. These are awards, certificates, and diplomas. Awards are worth between 1 and 12 credits, certificates are worth between 13 – 36 credits and diplomas are worth 37+ credits. Once qualification development has been completed, it is up to the awarding organisation to design the assessment.
